How to review music before Mass (Song Leader)
It is very desirable for the Song Leader to introduce music which may be either new or rarely used before Mass begins.
Good morning. Please turn with me to page ___ in our worship aid. Today we will sing a (new song / a song which may not be familiar to some / review our Psalm Response for) today’s Mass. We’ll play it first, then I will sing it and then we will sing it together a few times. Then proceed to introduce whatever music you are reviewing. End with: Thank you. How to review music before Mass: During the Prelude time (before the song leader introduces or reviews music with the assembly, a prelude may be offered by playing through any of the songs to be used during the Mass. You may consult with the song leader as to which song might be lesser known. |
Lord, may our music reflect thanks and joy for your unending gifts that rescue and guide us. May our praise give you glory for all those blessings. May our lives be given in your name to bring help and hope to a world in need. As musicians and liturgists, may we strive daily to sing and proclaim this vision of living discipleship and love. Through Jesus the Christ. Amen. |
Our participation in the Liturgy is challenging. Sometimes, our voices do not correspond to the convictions of our hearts. At other times, we are distracted or preoccupied by the cares of the world. But Christ always invites us to enter into song, to rise above our own preoccupations, and to give our entire selves to the hymn of his Paschal Sacrifice for the honor and glory of the Most Blessed Trinity (STL, 14).
